Who's the lucky one?

I really liked "Through the Backyards" by Au Revoir Simone a few years ago... especially because every time I heard it I would instantly have to put "St. Elmo's Fire" by UILAB on and that would inevitably bring me back to Brian Eno's amazing original. I love when songs send me off on a carousel of attachments. It gives me a strange feeling of security knowing that the next song playing is going to be just as good as the last. Like for the next few minutes there is absolutely nothing I have to worry about.

That said, I was devastated when Erika Forster left Dirty On Purpose to join the band. I saw their first show at the knitting factory basement years ago and even at that point the raw musical talent was stunning. For me it was the synergy of mingling vocals on songs like "Mind Blindness" that made their music so stirring to me. Its one of the most amazing songs of all time. I never get sick of it.

Anyway, Pitchfork has put up a track from the new album and I have to admit I am kind of going for it. There's something compelling about the slow buildup, and when it begins to swell it starts to wake you up. Its my new alarm clock. It starts me out gently, not really waking me, just telling me I have to think about it... and then, about three and half minutes in, its time to wakeup.
